Organization Name: YMCA of Greater Cleveland. I will be working at The French Creek Family YMCA as well as The Vermilion Family YMCA.

General Information: The YMCA of Greater Cleveland is a Health and Wellness company that focuses on serving its communities through programming that promotes healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Some of the primary services offered are wellness programs, personal training, group exercise, youth sports, aquatics programs, and childcare. The French Creek Family YMCA is located at 2010 Recreation Ln, Avon, OH 44017. The Vermilion Family YMCA is located at 320 Aldrich Rd, Vermilion, OH 44089.    

Key People: Joe Cerny is the Interim CEO at YMCA of Greater Cleveland. Under Mr. Cerny is a leadership team of executives that runs branch operations for their respective geographical locations as well as core service leaders who run the different departments within the YMCA. Charity Latson-Butch is the Lorain County Executive, and Sid Shrivastava is the Executive Wellness Director, I report directly to both of these executives.

Hours: To fulfill the requirements of this mentorship, 200 contacts hours must be completed. As a supervisor responsible for multiple employees and buildings my hours will vary. I am responsible for 40 hours per week in the office, but I also work from home and away at different locations a lot. I am never truly off the clock with such significant responsibilities. I am expected to work Monday through Friday and at least one day per week I am responsible for the operations of the entire building. I am also responsible for running the buildings at my branch on some weekends and holidays.  

 


Duties: I am responsible for overseeing all wellness responsibilities including but not limited to creating and managing department budget of over $200,000, at each location I am the director, managing over 90 staff members, creating and executing programming that severs members and carries out the mission of the YMCA while generating revenue. I will also oversee all wellness equipment and maintenance. 

Compensation: I am employed by the YMCA of Greater Cleveland. However, I took over the responsibility of Wellness Director the Vermilion branch to bolster my experience with no additional compensation.

Program Goals: Through this mentorship, I am seeking to sharpen my management skills as well as getting better at strategizing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures. I also am looking to grow my knowledge of the business practices of non-profit organizations. Lastly, I am looking ford do developing strong leaders in the wellness industry.

 

Expected Learning Outcomes: With this experience, I expect to have the opportunity to go through multiple experiences that help me grow as a professional. I expect to go through customer service experiences, personnel management issues, and strategy and implementation experiences. I expect to deal with budget management, and facility operations as well. Within all of these experiences, I expect to learn valuable information that will apply to many different things as I prepare to advance in my career.
